Hi, I'm Sam.

I'm a pre-dental graduate, husband, and father to a terrific daughter. I'm also extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the science of learning. 

​

Researchers don’t give specific study strategies; academic culture discourages it. As a student, I had the creative freedom to combine their findings into a system that works in real courses.

​

​It's crazy that this science is hidden from students. Research has uncovered a ton of powerful effectors of learning, like free recall, interleaving, and dual coding. But trying to combine everything and fit them into my coursework made my head spin.​​​​​​

To build SAM, I spent two years reading this mountain of research, testing it against rigorous (by undergraduate standards) coursework, and going back to the drawing board again and again. I liked it for the most part.

I wanted to study without having to think about my classes. So I built it to be structured enough so that I always knew exactly what to do, but flexible enough to apply to any class.
